Salvador City Hall, through the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism (Secult) and the Gregório de Mattos Foundation (FGM), will integrate the programming of the Bahia Book Biennial, which takes place from this Friday (26th) until the next May 1st, at the Salvador Convention Center (CCS), in Boca do Rio. Participation will take place through dynamics, sociocultural and educational actions in three spaces within the Biennale: the Casa das Histórias Stand, the Children’s Space and the Literary Café.

The Casa das Histórias Stand will feature lecture presentations, project and book launches and a meeting of literary languages. The Salvador City Hall space presents stories based on the book Boca de Cena. Finally, the Café Literário will feature a lively chat with drawing professionals and artists who translate texts and poetry, with their drawings, as well as conversations with authors selected in the João Ubaldo Seal – Year IV.

FGM Library, Books and Reading Manager, Jane Palma, states that the event is fundamental for the city, as Bahia’s literary exponent is great in the national universe. “The great names in our literature were born in Bahia, and the City Hall has a public policy to encourage important reading, so this event will promote the economic and productive chain of literature, expanding the habit of reading in different genres. Our participation is important to show, through spaces, our actions”, he declares.

On the occasion, the public will be able to check out all the actions and publications launched by FGM, such as the João Ubaldo Ribeiro seal, the Cauê Erê project, aimed at children, the promotion of the Digital Platform Caminhos da Leitura and the Coreto Literário – a project that, in the summer , runs through squares in the city of Salvador.

Creativity – One of the highlights of the program takes place on Monday (29), with a conversation circle, at 10 am, with the theme “Identity in the body – approach to black literature in the creations of clothes and fabrics”, which will discuss the conditions in the scenario current status, proposals and actions developed. The attraction will feature the creative director of Katuka Africanidades, Renato Carneiro, stylist Goya Lopes and artist Alberto Pita.

For Goya, fashion and literature have creation in common. “Today, more and more, we see fashion as behavior. And literature is also a response to behavior. Fashion and literature are linked by fantasy and all that image, that fertile imagination of creators. There are several points that connect the two. In particular, talking about narrative, bringing three creators, is showing the importance that printing and creation have. Each of them, Pita, Renato and Goya, brought to Brazil a new Afro-Brazilian language, of narrative, through printmaking. A very special movement, very typical of our Bahia”, he assesses.

On the same day, at 2pm, the highlight of Café Literário is the table ‘As Imagens das Letras’, mediated by Felipe Rêgo, manager of SalCine. “The invitation to participate in Café Literário is an honor, as it is the recognition of my artistic trajectory as a builder of visual narratives, in addition to printed works, as a large part of the works I have been illustrating in recent years have been for audiovisual. But there is another fundamental aspect that adds to my personal satisfaction, which is the possibility of having my work in dialogue with artists I admire, opening up perceptions for younger people of the plural possible paths to follow for those who take up drawing as a tool for communication”, declares one of the speakers, illustrator Igor Souza.
