ES Government – Capixaba wins champion title in the South American Surfing Circuit

Athlete Alexandre Escobar, from Serra, won the title of champion of the second stage of the South American Surfing Circuit in the longboard category. The achievement came last Sunday (21), at Praia de Itaúna, in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro.

With the result in the World Surf League (WSL) competition, Alexandre Escobar, who is covered by the Bolsa Atleta program, from the Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Sesport), is in third place in the South American ranking of the sport and is competing for a place on the World Circuit.

In June, the Espírito Santo faces two more stages of the circuit, which will be held in Peru. He celebrated his first championship title as a professional, which takes on even greater importance as it was at an international event, and spoke about his expectations for the next challenges.

“I’m very happy, so far I don’t even have many words, I just cried and thanked God and my sponsors. It was incredible and I’m very happy and very excited about these two stages that will take place in Peru. Now that I’m very close to the spot, I’m going all out and, God willing, I can achieve my long-awaited classification and be the first Espírito Santo to represent surfing on the World Circuit”, celebrated Alexandre Escobar.

Athlete Scholarship

Bolsa Atleta’s main objective is to benefit high-performance athletes and para-athletes, with monthly financial assistance that must be used to maintain the results obtained and the athlete’s sporting career in the year in which the benefit is received.

With an investment of R$3.9 million, the 2024 call for proposals reached a record number of high-performance athletes selected, with 234 selected, 43 more than in the previous call. Those selected will be paid 12 monthly installments, according to the category: student (R$500), national (R$1,500), international (R$2,000) and Olympic (R$4,000).
