Car and truck fell into a ditch on BR-163, injured were taken to hospitals in the region
Mother and her 1-year-old son died in a crash between a car and a truck, on BR-163, in São Gabriel do Oeste, 137 km from Campo Grande, on Tuesday night (23). The vehicles fell into a ditch after the collision. Another seven people were rescued and taken to a health unit in the region.
According to the São Gabriel police chief, Mateus Vital, the accident involved a Toyota Hilux and a Fiat Uno. The vehicles were heading towards Rio Verde de Mato Grosso, when the truck, occupied by five people, hit the back of the car, with four occupants.
Subsequently, the two vehicles fell into a ditch, on the banks of the highway, and were completely destroyed. Michele Aparecida de Lima, aged 24, and her son, aged 1 year and six months, occupied Uno and died at the scene.

The driver of the Fiat, Vanilson Barbosa dos Reis, aged 59, and the passenger, Fabricio de Souza da Silva, aged 29, were injured. There was a gallon of gasoline in the car and they were drenched in the fuel. The men were rescued unconscious. The occupants of Uno lived in a settlement in São Gabriel.
The Hilux was occupied by a family that was returning from a medical appointment in Campo Grande and lives in Coxim. A businessman, his wife, his mother-in-law and two children, aged 5 and 6, were removed from the ditch and taken to the region’s health unit.
The rescue of the injured received help from the concessionaire that manages the highway, CCR MSVia, the PRF (Federal Highway Police) and the Fire Department.
