New in the tourism sector. Minascentro will host, next Friday (26), the first edition of the Minas Travel Market, a B2B tourism event that replaces the old Minas Gerais Tourism Hall, run by the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (Abav). Inspired and designed by the same creators of the Brazil Travel Market (BTM) – one of the largest tourism fairs in Latin America –, the meeting is expected to bring together around 2,000 tourism professionals over the course of two days (26th and 27th ).

The Minas Travel Market will bring suppliers and buyers from the tourism sector from all over Brazil to the Capital. The objective is to promote the exchange of experiences and business opportunities, contributing to the development of tourism in Minas Gerais and nationally.

In a new format, the event opted for the experience center given the possibility of expanding access for more professionals in the area. With a privileged location – in a perimeter with a strong tourist, historical and cultural impact – the space simultaneously accommodates more than 8 thousand people per event, considering all the multipurpose environments that comprise the area of more than 23 thousand m² of Minascentro.

In addition to the already renowned gastronomic and historical attractions that place the capital of Minas Gerais as an effervescent tourist hub, Belo Horizonte also stands out on the circuit of major cultural and entertainment events, which attract visitors from all over the State and other regions of the country. The flow of people stimulates the provision of services and increases revenue, which is in line with the fair’s proposals and its possibilities for dialogue and business. Focused on intensifying the strengthening of partnerships, stimulating networking and catalyzing new strategic opportunities in the dynamic universe of tourism, the Minas Travel Market should welcome caravans with representatives from 19 states in Brazil.

According to the head marketing manager at Minascentro, Ana Cristina Campos, it is symbolic that the experience center is part of this new moment in tourism in Minas Gerais, given its strong impact on this scenario throughout history.

“The narrative that precedes Minascentro is confused, in several chapters, with the emancipation and development of Belo Horizonte itself. Starting with the physical space: an example of neoclassical architecture full of history, designed at the beginning of the 20th century and located in an area of intense cultural and tourist activity in the capital. Furthermore, the experiences we create, curate and receive bring to Belo Horizonte other possibilities of seeing the city from a development perspective, converging multiple intangible values of extremely high tourist, cultural and business potential”, he highlights.

New moment in the sector

As the most recent data from Belotur indicates, Belo Horizonte has been presenting good numbers in terms of tourist activity indicators. Hotel occupancy, for example, reached 65.65% of the monthly average last year, with an average revenue per room (REVpar) of R$219.00 – better numbers than in the pre-pandemic period, according to the Brazilian Industry Association of Minas Gerais Hotels (Abih-MG).

Still in 2023, R$ 147.98 million were recorded collected only in taxes on services (ISS) related to partially and typically tourist activities.

Among the services that were most impacted by the tourist ISS in 2023 are rail and metro transport; accommodation services; recreational, cultural and sporting activities; the activities of event companies; the activities of travel agencies and organizers; auxiliary transport services and food services.
