When the Olympic torch passed through Blumenau, the Santa it was there. When the contract with the company that provided the public transport service was broken with the city hall, too. Impeachment of presidents, World Cup results, exclusive photographs and nationally awarded covers are part of the newspaper’s curriculum.

Remember, below, historical moments recorded by the newspaper born in 1971 and which since then has been following changes in society. The reflection of this can even be seen in the way it was delivered: from the first black and white copies to the bold colorful and impactful covers.

The periodicity went from daily to weekly in 2019, but good journalism and service provision continue to be the hallmarks of Santa:

10/25/2019 – On this day Santa stops circulating daily, starts having a weekly printed edition and focuses on producing content for digital.

7/13/2016 – On the day that Blumenau became the world capital of sport, the Olympic torch enchanted crowds through the city streets.

5/13/2016 – Cover and back cover in harmony in the edition of May 13, 2016. The edition used the same photo from Dilma Rousseff’s inauguration, in 2015, to symbolize Michel Temer’s rise to the presidency.

1/25/2016 – On Saturday, Blumenau declares the breach of the contract with Consórcio Siga. Two days later, Santa publishes a cover explaining what the next steps in the city would be.

11/17/2014 – This appears to be a common cover. But it is not. Don’t be fooled by the glamorous Christmas tree in Vila Germânica, because we have to pay attention to the headline: the day before Operation Lava-Jato had taken place.

8 and 9/11/2014 – A cover in mourning. I mourn for the three brothers killed in Petrolândia, in Alto Vale do Itajaí, in the biggest tragedy faced by the city.

8/25/2014 – Another fire that saddened Blumenau. The abandoned property of the former Frohsinn Restaurant caught fire in August 2014. Smoke filled the central region of the city and the fire could be seen from afar.

7/9/2014 – With the “Hangover” and seven glasses of beer being slowly enjoyed, the cover symbolized Germany’s seven goals against Brazil in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, in the middle of Mineirão.

12/31/2013 and 1/1/2014 – Nothing better than a board game, a free, light, loose, relaxed game, to celebrate the arrival of 2014.

7 and 8/9/2013 – Report by Cristian Weiss showed the hard life of residents of Blumenau who do not have electricity at home.

10/17/2013 – The story of Eva Moraes and the heart transplant carried out at Santa Isabel Hospital is moving. The obstacles she faced and the coincidences give argument to those who believe in destiny.

7/18/2013 – After a decade of pressure from Jornal de Santa Catarina, the service order for the duplication of BR-470 was finally signed in July 2013.

12/31/2012 and 1/1/2013 – Simple and objective, New Year’s Eve cover from 2012 to 2013 summarized a download: “Loading”.

9/10/2011 – A major flood in Blumenau occurred in September 2011. The level of the Itajaí-Açu reached 12.60 meters and left six people dead in the State. On the cover of the weekend of September 10th and 11th, Santa brings nothing more, nothing less, than the sun.

11/12/2010 – With a smaller photo on the cover, Santa brought up that day the death of Marcelo Emílio, a painter who died after falling from the 11th floor of a building in Balneário Camboriú. The fact led to a series of reports on workplace safety.

7/10/2010 – To celebrate the beginning of the 27th Oktoberfest, in 2010, Santa brought the report “Planeta Oktober”, with an image taken with the 360° technique by photographer Chan.

7/3 and 4/2010 – After the defeat to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, here is Santa’s cover. The creativity earned the newspaper the Esso Award in the Page 1 category — it was the fourth time that Santa won the biggest award for Brazilian journalism.

11/26/2008 – Four days after the beginning of the tragedy, Blumenau and the region counted the dead and tried to understand what had happened. The report reported the details of the destruction in Morro do Baú, in Ilhota, and stated: “The Itajaí Valley has never seen a similar tragedy”.

11/25/2008 – There is no word that more clearly summarizes what November 2008 was like. And anyone who lived through that month knows this. “Tragedy”. In total, 135 people died across the state, most of them in the Itajaí Valley.

3/5/2016 – On May 2, 2016, the Court ordered the blocking of WhatsApp, an instant messaging application. As a result, conversations and sharing were prevented from occurring.

2 and 3/4/2005 – The death of Pope John Paul II dominated the cover of Santa in April 2005.

1/31/2005 – Blumenau once again had a representative in Catarinense Series A with Metropolitano, in 2005. The strength of the fans and the always packed Sesi made the newspaper headline “A Paixão Ressurge”.

7/1/2002 – Cafu’s smile and the shirt with the inscription “100% Jardim Irene” froze on the cover of Santa on July 1, 2002 the historic achievement of the Brazilian team’s fifth championship.

10/24/1998 – The death of Vilson Kleinübing, former governor and father of the former mayor of Blumenau, João Paulo, moved Santa Catarina. The politician’s death was reported by Santa in October 1998.

6/15/1996 – A few days after the cover of BR-101, Santa featured on the cover one of the most striking fires for the people of Blumenau: that of the Catarinense Building. Three people that day were poisoned by smoke. “Hours of terror”, highlighted the newspaper.

6/13/1996 – Raising flags for the community has always been part of Santa’s essence. In 1996, already part of the RBS Group, the newspaper pushed for the duplication of BR-101, which began shortly afterwards.

7/22/1997 – What until then had been the biggest robbery in Santa Catarina also graced the cover of the newspaper. The robbery at BESC, which killed a police officer, ended with R$1 million taken and brought to light the criminal Papagaio.

12/30/1992 – On December 30, 1992, Santa headlined the downfall of Fernando Collor de Mello. In a letter, read by the lawyer, the then president resigned from the mandate for which he had been elected in 1989. Even so, he did not escape impeachment.

11/17/1989 – Which of the candidates goes to the second round against Collor in the elections? Squid? Brizola? The uncertainty made headlines in Santa two days after the vote. Votes were still on paper and took a long time to be counted.

7/27/1989 – One of the most memorable moments in the history of Blumenau football occurred in July 1989. That year, Zico’s Flamengo set foot in Blumenau to compete in the Copa do Brasil against BEC.

10/11/1988 – In 1988 it was the first time that Oktoberfest Blumenau registered more than 1 million visitors. In the Oktober Zeitung, a special section published by Santa during the party, the topic could not have been any other: “There are a lot of people!”.

7/15/1983 – Eight days without being delivered due to the tragedy of the floods of July 1983, Santa had an edition again on the 15th. In a large 14-page report, the newspaper brought up the problems caused by the floods, the deaths and the debate about what should be done.

6/1/1982 – In January 1982, the Salto Bridge collapsed. In need of renovations, the structure did not stand the test of time and collapsed. The next day, Santa brought a report about the problems that caused the fall.

12/24/1977 – Always creative and innovative, Santa brings a page with only good news for Christmas 1977. These are reports that the newspaper would like to do the following year, 1978.
