Teachers who are part of the category’s union in Sergipe (Sintese) gathered in the form of a protest on the morning of this Tuesday, 23rd, in front of the headquarters of the State Secretariat for Education and Culture (Seduc), located in the Grageru neighborhood, south zone from Aracaju.
According to Sintese, the act is to show strength, symbolizing that teachers are united to “fight the devaluation of the category”. “Today’s act marks the first day of the state school teachers’ strike. I want to reinforce the importance of the participation of all teachers so that we can show governor Fábio Mitidieri (PSD) and education secretary Zezinho Sobral that we can no longer take this massacre of the devaluation of public education”, highlights Ivônia Pereira, vice-president of Syndicate.
According to her, in addition to today’s act and strike, there will be regional acts this Wednesday, the 24th, in all the union’s regional directorates spread across the state. “I call on all comrades to look for the DRs in their municipality to join us in this fight”, she highlights.
Meeting with the governor
Amidst the demonstrations, Sintese reported that it managed to schedule a meeting with governor Fábio Mitidieri (PSD) to show the demands that the category considers most urgent. The meeting will be on May 6th.
What does Seduc say
In a statement, Seduc highlighted that it reinforces the State Government’s commitment to teaching staff, and has maintained an open, transparent and respectful dialogue with the category. “Following an agreement built jointly between the Government and Sintese throughout 2023, in January 2024 the resumption of the teaching career began, after being frozen for 16 years. The implementation was completed and will be completed in January 2025, an investment of more than R$240 million”, he states.
Also according to the Ministry of Education, in response to requests from school communities, families, students and parents, state schools will be open on April 23 and 24 to receive students and teachers who did not join the movement. School management and student monitors will carry out reinforcement and other activities to guarantee routine, reception, school meals and transportation for all students in the state education network.
“Seduc reinforces that a meeting was held with Sintese on March 8th, when several topics were discussed with a focus on the demands of the category for the year 2024. On March 20th, the second meeting took place, with the same themes . The next meeting between the State Government and the Union is already scheduled for the second half of May”, he highlights.
