The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the cases. The Department for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly reported that some measures are underway.

When contacted by UOL, Afasc says that “situations like these are unfortunately common in the context of childhood”, but that it is investigating the events. “An internal investigation has already been opened to investigate the cases and we reiterate our commitment to the safety and well-being of the children who attend our daycare centers.”

Read the Afasc note in full:

“The Associação Feminina de Assistência Social de Criciúma (Afasc), an institution with more than five decades of commitment to the well-being and development of children in our community, wishes to clarify recent events that occurred in one of our educational units.

Last Thursday (18), during the activity period, incidents occurred involving two children under the care of Afasc. One of them was bitten by a classmate, while the other possibly came into contact with hot water while taking a shower.

Situations like these are unfortunately common in the context of childhood, where exploration and interaction between children are fundamental to their development. We emphasize that we are rigorously investigating both events, in collaboration with authorities and the management team, aiming to ensure transparency and safety for everyone involved. It is important to note that, in a month, a child at Afasc spends 176 hours at the institution, adding up to the six thousand children hosted, that is more than one million hours per month.
