Houses are closed in a city in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador after erosion in a hole | Bahia

Thirty-eight houses at risk of collapsing were closed this Tuesday (23), in Candeias, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. The measure was adopted after inspections around the street where a hole had eroded.

The problem occurred in the district of Menino Jesus, as a result of the heavy rains that hit the region in recent days.

According to the city’s Civil Defense, the notification is for immediate removal from the site. The affected region was already treated as a risk area, now it has become an unsafe place to live.

“Civil Defense is part of the task force set up by the city hall, in order to provide support to all families residing in the surrounding area. Every action we are taking here is to solve this problem that has been going on for more than 20 years, and above all to bring security to the lives of all residents”, said Civil Defense technician, Ademar Cerqueira.

The server emphasizes that the evacuation of houses is necessary because the soil has become vulnerable due to the large volume of water. As a result, several landslides occurred in the locality.

“This month alone, it has already rained 470 millimeters. In comparison, the track record for the entire month of April is 280 millimeters.”

The Department of Development and Social Assistance works with Civil Defense, monitoring and providing support to affected families. Social rent, basic food baskets and support in moving locations were guaranteed to residents.
