A 43-year-old man was arrested red-handed this Tuesday (23), suspected of torturing a 7-year-old child with a string, as a form of punishment for her having wet the bed, in Apiacás, 1,005 km from Cuiabá.
According to the Civil Police, the suspect is the victim’s stepfather and works as a pastor at an evangelical church in the region. According to the police, the child’s mother was aware of what happened and was also arrested.
The investigations began after a complaint made by the municipal Guardianship Council stating that a child had been admitted to the municipal hospital with injuries to the genital organ.
According to police, the victim had the organ tied with a string for three days. Due to the severity of the injury, the child was transferred to a hospital in Alta Floresta. According to doctors’ reports, she is at risk of suffering an amputation.
The delegate responsible for the case, Paula Meira Barbosa, explained that the two will answer for the crime of torture through punishment, in which the sentence can range from two to eight years in prison.
