Have you ever driven along a highway in Espírito Santo and seen radars wrapped in a plastic bag? This scenario has become routine for those who drive on the state’s state roads, including in Serra. The explanation for this happening on all 160 radars distributed along the highways is simple: the contract with the responsible company has come to an end.
These radars are installed and managed by a company hired specifically for this electronic monitoring service.
However, when the contract ends, it is no longer allowed to measure speed, and the company has up to 30 days to remove the equipment, as explained by the Espírito Santo Highway Department (DER-ES).
During the interval given for the removal of speed measuring devices, the company chose to cover the radars with plastic bags. This serves to indicate which radars and which electronic monitoring structures are still active.
New contract for radars
To the newspaper New TimeDER-ES informed that the approval of the new company that will be responsible for the maintenance of the 160 pieces of equipment that will be installed on state highways under the management of the agency has already been published in the Official Gazette this Monday (01/04).
“DER-ES also advises that drivers continue to respect the speed limits on the signs, as the devices will be turned on at any time,” he said in a note.
The state also confirmed that the company has a period of 30 days to remove its equipment and that, as it is removed, the new contracted company will replace the equipment throughout the state.
