A partnership between Bahia and the city of Salvador will bring an Olympic Training Center (CT) to the Cidade Baixa region. The announcement was made by Mayor Bruno Reis during the signing of the work order for the construction of the new Governador Antônio Balbino Sports Arena, this Monday morning (1st).
The center will be located in an 8 thousand square meter warehouse, on Rua Barão de Cotegipe, close to Largo de Roma. According to Bruno Reis, the renovation and readjustment of the site will be the responsibility of the city hall, which will hand over the administration of the site to Bahia. The project will involve an investment of R$2 million, with delivery deadline at the end of 2024. The space will be located in front of a new Popular Restaurant that will be opened in the region.
“It will have a huge social impact. There will be several sports that will serve the children of Cidade Baixa for free. They will have psychosocial support from instructors, as well as snacks. This partnership with Bahia allows thousands of young people to become high-performance athletes”, said the mayor.
Tricolor president, Emerson Ferretti, says that his management has been working on Olympic sports projects since December 2023, two months before taking over the club. The intention is for the new arena to be Bahia’s home for individual and collective sports.
“This is the first step in the creation of Bahia’s Olympic modalities. Having a place to work on our activities and develop our teams and athletes. From the beginning, our management sought out the city hall to have a partner in this project. From now on, we work so that Bahia fans can also support the club outside the football field”, said Emerson.
A post published by the sports marketing agency MCS, with which the club signed a partnership in March, indicates that basketball and table tennis are practiced at the site. However, Emerson states that the project is still being structured and the modalities have not been defined.
According to Bruno Reis, the new space adds to other partnerships that the city hall has with some clubs in the capital. “We have a partnership with Grupo City, where we made synthetic grass fields and they manage 10 spaces with schools that serve more than 4 thousand children. We also have a partnership with Vitória, for the use of parking, which we are implementing to serve the Canabrava Social Park”, he concluded.
