The survey was carried out by the Tourism Council of the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP), based on data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In relation to Brazilian states, Acre had the biggest increase in revenue from the sector, reaching a variation of 22.7%. The ranking is followed by Rondônia (8.9%), Amazonas (8.7%) and the Federal District (7.2%).

On the other hand, in dollar terms, those that earned the most were: São Paulo (R$ 4.41 billion), Rio de Janeiro (R$ 1.25 billion), Minas Gerais (R$ 1.17 billion) and Santa Catarina ( R$868 million).

Segments analyzed

Of the eight segments analyzed in the survey, six showed a positive balance, with emphasis on the transport rental group — which brings together driverless vehicle agencies —, which grew 16.5% compared to the same period in 2023, recording a revenue of R$2.2 billion.

The air transport and accommodation segments were responsible for the majority of the sector’s revenue in January, with R$4.7 billion and R$2.44 billion, respectively. Cultural activities and water transport accounted for 5% and 5.5%. The drops were recorded in the road passenger transport sector, with revenues 13.7% lower than January 2023, and in travel agencies, with 0.7% less than the same period last year.
