London’s Metropolitan Police arrested a man who crashed his car into a building and injured five people with a sword near Hainault tube station, this Tuesday (30). According to authorities, two rescued victims were police officers and a 13-year-old teenager died after the attack.
In a statement, police said other emergency services were on site to assist in taking victims to hospitals following the “serious incident”.
“We were called just before 7am to reports of a vehicle being driven into a house in the Thurlow Gardens area. There were reports of people being stabbed.”, stated the charity’s official profile. The Metropolitan Police then stated that they are not looking for other suspects and the case “does not appear to be related to terrorism”, but investigations continue at the scene and the Hainault metro station has been temporarily closed.
London Police Chief Inspector Stuart Bell told British media that the two injured officers required surgery following the attack.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, released an official statement regretting the episode. “I am devastated by the news in Hainault this morning. A man has been detained in the alert area and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident,” he said.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the attack “shocking” and declared that this type of violent act “has no place in the country”.
