With six vetoes by governor Romeu Zema (Novo) blocking the agenda of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG), the deputies met in plenary this Tuesday afternoon (2) and maintained three vetoes by the Executive on bills that were approved in the House. With that, three others remain on the agenda. A new plenary meeting was scheduled for 2 pm this Wednesday (3) to continue the activities and for deputies to try to “clean up” the agenda.

Veto 3 was the most controversial of them. A bill by deputy Marquinho Lemos (PT), unanimously approved by deputies last year, intended to exempt the charging toll fees for drivers who pass more than once a day in the same square between 5am and 10pm.

The project was partially vetoed by the governor, who argued that the terms that define toll collection are defined by the government together with state highway concessionaires.

In a session that began at 5pm this Tuesday, 33 deputies voted to maintain the veto, while another 24 spoke out for its overturn. At least 39 votes were needed against the governor’s decision for the project’s approval to be maintained.

Another veto maintained was a project by deputy Sergeant Rodrigues (PL) which intended to defend consumers, especially the elderly, illiterate, sick or in a vulnerable state against advertising from banking institutions for abusive offers and hiring. There were 40 votes to maintain the veto and another 18 to overturn it.

Zema also partially vetoed a project that provides for the fixing, counting, collection and payment of fees relating to acts carried out by notarial and registration services, in addition to the collection of the Judicial Inspection Fee and compensation for acts subject to the gratuity established by law federal. In this case, there were 49 votes in favor of the governor’s decision and one against.
