Disclosure/ PCDF

The Civil Police of the Federal District carried out this Tuesday (2) an operation to execute search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to those suspected of evading R$43.7 million in taxes in the Federal District. According to investigations, the group used shell companies, created with false documents, to simulate the passage of grain goods through the federal capital.

“The companies were opened in the name of crooks and front men, who had no knowledge of the illicit activities,” the police reported. Investigations indicate that a couple of businessmen were identified as key players in the scheme.

“Businessmen from Uberlândia created a shell company to simulate the passage of grain goods in the DF. They simulated transactions and when these goods supposedly passed through the DF they generated an ICMS credit, which was not recovered or paid by these companies. When the DF bodies looked for this company to collect these taxes, these companies did not pay”, said delegate Leonardo Cardoso.

The warrants were carried out in DF, Minas Gerais and Paraná, including an accounting office that provided services to the suspects. They are being investigated for criminal association, tax evasion, document forgery, use of false documents and money laundering. If convicted, they could face up to 30 years in prison.

The police reported that the objective of the operation was to collect evidence “to strengthen the evidence against those being investigated, identify others involved in the scheme, verify the destination of the withheld amounts, seize assets and values to reimburse the public coffers and conclude the police investigation”.
