Federal Highway Police in Mato Grosso Makes Major Drug Seizures

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Mato Grosso carried out a series of drug seizures during inspection actions on different sections of the state’s federal highways. The actions resulted in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of approximately 1 ton of narcotics.

In one of the incidents, on March 29, 2024, in Pontes e Lacerda, a PRF team approached a bus traveling on the Rio Branco – AC line with its final destination, Florianópolis – SC. During the inspection, with a passenger, 1.1 kg of SKUNK were found, resulting in the arrest on suspicion of drug trafficking.

On the same day, another approach resulted in the seizure of 130 kg of drugs. A vehicle pulling a semi-trailer was stopped near km 800 of BR 364, in the municipality of Campo Novo de Parecis/MT. During the inspection, the police found 130 SKUNK tablets hidden in the cabin and semi-trailer. The driver was taken to the Civil Judiciary Police for drug trafficking.

On March 30, a new occurrence was recorded at km 488.0 of BR 174, in the municipality of Comodoro/MT. On a bus, a passenger was caught carrying 4 SKUNK tablets. The offender confessed that she would receive a sum of money for transporting the drugs and was arrested.

Still on the 30th, another seizure occurred, this time at km 733 of BR 163, in Sorriso. A PRF team ordered a vehicle to stop when a passenger tried to escape, but was captured by the team. With him, 7 tablets of cocaine were found. The suspect was also taken to the Civil Judiciary Police for drug trafficking.

Another major seizure on March 30th, around 1:40 am, during inspection at Operational Unit 502, on BR-364, KM 319, in Campo Verde towards Cuiabá/Rondonópolis/MT.

When approaching a combination of vehicles, during the inspection, the driver reported that the vehicle was empty. During the inspection, after opening the top valve of the tank in the internal compartment, several packages were seen in the front of the tank. When opening them, 550 Cocaine tablets were found. 81 amphetamine pills were also found in the cabin. The offender, after discovering the drugs, reported that he picked up drugs in Pontes e Lacerda and would take them to Bahia. Given the information, the offender was taken to the Civil Judiciary Police, on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Finally, an approach at km 503.0 of BR 070, in Cuiabá/MT, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs. A vehicle was caught transporting 153.15 kg of drugs, including cocaine, hashish and skunk.

The driver was arrested for drug trafficking.

All detained people were taken to local civil police stations.

These actions highlight the PRF’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of federal highways for all citizens.
