The Amazonas Consumer Protection Institute (Procon-AM) fined, on Monday (1st), a branch of Banco Bradesco, in the municipality of Novo Aripuanã (227 kilometers from Manaus), for non-compliance with rules established by state law 5,867/2022, better known as the Queue Law. At the location, there was no distribution of passwords to control the waiting time for public service.

Inspection agents arrived at the scene after complaints from the population and discovered the irregularity.

According to the legislation in force in the state, commercial establishments such as banks (and correspondents), lottery outlets, public service concessionaires such as water, electricity and telephone, among others, are obliged to provide tickets or numerical passwords to customers, in order to guarantee that the service is carried out in a timely manner, respecting the user’s dignity and time, so that the service is provided within the deadlines established by law.

According to Procon-AM, non-compliance with the Queuing Law is subject to a fine, which can reach R$ 150 thousand, in the case of a repeat offense.

In the municipality, in addition to Bradesco, other financial institutions and commercial establishments, such as supermarkets and gas stations, were inspected and advised on the use of signposts with Procon-AM contacts for receiving reports and complaints. Supermarkets were also advised about the prohibition of charging fees to the State Aid card.

Inland inspections

On March 28, in Manicoré (332 kilometers from Manaus), Procon-AM also carried out inspections at bank branches, supermarkets and gas stations. The measure is due to the high demand for complaints from consumers dissatisfied with the provision of services.

In these locations, the agents carried out guidance on the importance of keeping signs showing the institute’s reporting channels visible, and provided guidance on undue charges on State Aid cards.

“Not only in the capital, but throughout the interior of the state, there is a huge demand from the population and our role is to check and combat abusive practices in the consumer market”, highlighted the CEO of Procon-AM, Jalil Fraxe.

Reporting channels

To make a complaint, the public can contact the Consumer Protection Institute by calling (92) 33215-4009 or 0800 092 1512, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 2pm, or send the demand by email: [email protected].
