A public transport bus in Salvador was stuck on the road, in the Barra neighborhood, after skidding during the rain that hit the Bahian capital this Tuesday morning (2). A security camera captured the moment of the accident. [Veja no vídeo acima]

The case happened around 5:30 am, on Rua José Sátiro de Oliveira, in the section known as “Ladeira do Morro do Gato” and the vehicle was removed to the garage two hours later.

Initial information indicates that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which was carrying around 15 passengers. There were no injuries.

The images show that the bus, which was on route 1388, Barra-Pirajá, hit a car, which was parked. Two other vehicles were then hit.

After the accident, traffic was closed and agents from the Salvador Traffic Superintendence (Transalvador) went to the scene to guide drivers who were trying to cross the road.

In an interview with TV Bahia, the bus driver said that the vehicle had an electrical failure and he needed to perform a maneuver to avoid an accident with greater impacts.

“There was an electrical failure in the vehicle, it turned off by itself and I had nothing to do other than change the direction and put it in the ravine,” he said.

The driver also said that he was not speeding and that he did not have time to think about another option.

“He was traveling at a speed of 30 kilometers, going downhill. When he turned off he only had time to shout ‘My God!’ and hold the steering. If I hadn’t done this here, the car would have rolled over”, he reported.

One of the owners of one of the cars hit by the bus does not believe the version presented by the bus driver, but reinforced that only a technical report can pinpoint the causes of the accident.

Resident talks about the moment a bus skidded and ended up on the road in Bahia

“Thank God nothing bigger happened and all the [passageiros] they left. We heard braking from the start of the hill, from the [Avenida] Oceanic, because here it is transversal. If the bus was braking there was no way there would be an electrical breakdown,” said the resident.

In a note, the Mobility Secretariat (Semob) reported that there is no information about the causes of the accident, but the concessionaire was notified to find out what happened.

“From our perspective as residents, it’s not the first time. The buses run down this hill, but today the road was wet and we heard braking from the beginning of the hill. So much so that I came to see my car, because it was on the street, and soon after we heard the noise”, said the owner of the damaged car.

Residents lose furniture and appliances after rainwater invades homes in Salvador

Residents of the Vale das Pedrinhas neighborhood reported having lost appliances and furniture after the rainwater that hit Salvador invaded their homes this Tuesday morning. See the scenery in other parts of the Bahian capital below.

One of those affected was Marcos Silva, who reported having monitored the situation during the early hours of the morning. However, when he lay down to sleep for 10 minutes, the volume of water increased and he was unable to remove his belongings from the property.

“That’s it all the time. When it rains, sewage water enters the house. I want to renovate the house, make it look nice, but every year it ends up being finished”, lamented the resident.
