The country ended 2023 with a per capita income (average per person) of R$1,893, according to the Continuous Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua), released this Wednesday by IBGE. In relation to regional indices, Rio Grande do Sul recorded the fourth highest per capita income in 2023.

According to Jorge Benhur Bilhar, IBGE regional coordinator, the Continuous PNAD is a survey that shows social indicators that has been developed permanently since 2012. “All people’s income data at the state level were released, where RS closed 2023 in fourth place among the federation units, with the highest per capita income”, highlighted Jorge.

These indicators include the income of formal or informal workers, farmers, those who have their own business and RS had an average of R$ 2,304.00 per person. “One of the factors that made the State stay in this position is the high GDP per capita of some municipalities, such as Soledade, which has strong industry and commerce, where these incomes are accounted for, as well as benefits from the federal government”, he explained.

PNAD Continua also released data on the unemployment rate in the last quarter, where the index has been decreasing. The rate is 7.6%, remaining stable compared to the quarter from August to October 2024 (7.6%) and fell 0.7 percentage points compared to the same moving quarter of 2023 (8.4%).

The sample has been developed in the 26 municipalities covered by the IBGE of Passo Fundo, including Soledade, Fontoura Xavier, São José do Herval and Nicolau Vergueiro.

Regarding data collection for research carried out by IBGE, the regional coordinator also commented on the population’s acceptance of participating in interviews with the Institute’s agents. “Our work does not require charging anything, much less obtaining any documents. It is just simple information for collecting data that will contribute to these indices that we publish”, concluded Jorge Benhur Bilhar.
