The Ministry of Justice and Public Security, under the command of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, announced the reinforcement of the National Force in Rio Grande do Sul. The measure aims to guarantee the public security and the protection of indigenous peoples in the Cacique Doble and Passo Grande do Rio Forquilha indigenous lands.

A MJSP Ordinance No. 621, of March 26, 2024authorizes the employment of the National Force for 90 dayswith the aim of:

  • Preserve public order
  • Guarantee the safety of people and property

Working together:

The National Force will act in together with the National Indian Foundation (Funai) and the public security bodies of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

Planning and logistics:

A Directorate of the National Public Security Force will be responsible for operation planningwhile the Ministry of Justice and Public Security will provide the logistical support.

Commitment to safety:

The reinforcement of the National Force in Rio Grande do Sul demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to public security and the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.
