Highway Police intensify inspection on Minas roads this Holy Week holiday

The Minas Gerais Military Highway Police continues with its teams on the region’s roads monitoring and inspecting the flow of vehicles during this Holy Week holiday. Until Sunday, the 31st, around 2,000 military personnel will operate on the more than 30 thousand kilometers of state and federal highways assigned to Minas.

In a recent interview with Journalism on Rádio Emboabas, Sergeant Hélder José da Silva, commander of the 2nd Road Platoon of São João del-Rei, highlighted the importance of radars present in the region, especially in reducing accidents during rainy periods, when the roads are more slippery.

“So on 265, itself, no other radar was installed. We only have those from Rio Acima and Elvas, which is in our area here. On BR494, which gives access to Ritápolis, São Tiago, which is also our responsibility, it is a federal highway also delegated to us, we had the installation of a radar which, by the way, was very important for us. Next to the viaduct, going to Ritápolis, in that location, in those curves of the viaduct. It was impressive there. When the first rain came, I could expect that it would start, that an accident would happen there. From the moment the radar was installed, I will talk to the gentlemen there, who have eliminated accidents in that region. There is a 60 km per hour radar there that is fully operational and, therefore, for us and for all road users, they were excellent.”

The commander issues a warning to reckless drivers, who tend to overtake prohibited on the roads. “The offense of overtaking is very serious. It can be detected by us through an approach or even without approaching the driver, for example, if we were patrolling the highway, we detected that a driver had overtaken in a prohibited area, we can issue a citation for him even without approaching him. . So, drivers have to be careful with this. And when we approach the driver, he is also issued a fine of R$1,490 and he also loses 7 points on his driving license.”
