He was identified as José Augusto Pereira da Silva, better known as “Da Leste”, aged 29, who died during an exchange of gunfire with the team from the Specialized Police Station for the Suppression of Bank Robbery, Robberies and Kidnappings (Garras) this afternoon Thursday (28) in the Vila Nova neighborhood, in the municipality of Sonora.

According to information gathered by the journalist, Sidney Assis, who was at the scene, the suspect was using a residence in the region as a smoke pit and had several weapons around the place. As a result, Garras’ team went to the location and was met with gunfire. Therefore, it was necessary to react to the unfair aggression and “Da Leste” ended up being shot.

The criminal was rescued and taken to the Municipal Hospital of Sonora. However, he succumbed to his injuries and died in the health unit. A 44-caliber gun was found at the scene with live ammunition and portions of drugs. According to the police, José Augusto belongs to the Comando Vermelho (CV) faction.

Given the facts, the Civil Police of Sonora and the Scientific Expertise of Coxim were called to respond to the incident and analyze the location of the police intervention. The case will be investigated.
