Task force recovers green area near Santa Luzia, in Estrutural

Around 40 people are mobilized to restore the green area located between Chácara Santa Luzia, in Estrutural, and the Brasília National Park. The work began this Wednesday (27) with the cleaning of the site, which is approximately 6 km long, and will continue over the next few days. The installation of concrete fences is also underway to prevent irregular waste disposal and, soon, the application of civil construction waste (RCC) will begin. Finally, the region will receive topsoil.

The action mobilizes efforts from different bodies of the Government of the Federal District (GDF). Servants and outsourced workers from the Department of Highways (DER-DF), the Companhia Urbanizadora da Nova Capital do Brasil (Novacap), the Urban Cleaning Service (SLU), the Government Secretariat (Segov) and the Executive Secretariat of Cities participate. (Secid), with the support of trucks and other machinery, such as hydraulic excavators and loaders.

Marco Aurélio Dermes, undersecretary of Operations in Cities and general coordinator of the GDF Presente program, states that the recovery was authorized by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMbio), responsible for the Brasília National Park, and is the continuation of services started in February, when there was D-Day to combat dengue in RA.

The RCC transport, donated by SLU, is expected to begin this Monday (1st). It is estimated that around 180 tons of material will be used to help the trucks travel. “As the vehicles are very heavy, we need reinforcement to transport the topsoil and avoid the vehicles getting stuck”, explains Dermes.

About 12 km from the central area of ​​Brasília, Chácara Santa Luzia has more than 10 thousand inhabitants and is part of the SCIA/Structural administrative region. The city has more than 37,500 residents in an area of ​​738.66 hectares, according to the latest District Household Sample Survey (Pdad).

The regional administrator of SCIA/Structural, Alceu Prestes, highlighted that this is the first action of its kind carried out in the area. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to preserving the environment and combating dengue fever. “It is pioneering work. People have been throwing garbage and rubbish in this area for years, causing a health risk for the entire city. We are cleaning the entire space and will cover erosion to prevent the accumulation of trash and, mainly, the emergence of mosquito breeding sites,” he commented.
