Owners of clandestine lottery in the interior of AM are arrested on suspicion of rigging games | Amazon

The Civil Police of Amazonas arrested, on Wednesday (27), a 51-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, owners of a clandestine lottery in Coari, in the interior of Amazonas.

According to delegate José Barradas, the two were being investigated for the crimes of money laundering, embezzlement, criminal association and gambling, with the victims being several people who bought cards for the prize draw. During the operation, the couple’s lottery, known as “Amanhecer da Sorte”, was closed by the police.

“We began investigations after receiving information about complaints from victims who purchased cards valued at R$2, where prize draws were held for prizes valued at R$5,000 to 6,000. The winners were always relatives and friends who took photos with their awards, and there was no supervision or authorization for operation by the Public Authorities”, informed the delegate.

Also according to Barradas, during the investigations it was possible to verify that the fake lottery defrauded winners and did not pay out the prizes in cash.

The scheme involved several people, including the couple who were arrested and were the owners of the place, selected winners and ticket sellers. In addition to the arrests of the scheme’s owners, bingo cards, machinery used to draw numbers and cell phones of those involved were seized.

They will be responsible for the criminal misdemeanor of gambling, in addition to the crimes of embezzlement, money laundering and criminal association.
