While many entities representing the productive sector in Santa Catarina have not yet been led by women, the Jaraguá do Sul Business Association (Acijs) has just sworn in its fourth president, the first female succession. Architect and urban planner Caroline Obenaus Cani, 37 years old, assumed the presidency of the entity on Tuesday night (26), succeeding Ana Clara Franzner Chiodini, who joined the association’s superior council.

The new president will lead Acijs for two years, which has been operating for 85 years and is the entity that disseminates the entrepreneurial culture of excellence in Jaraguá do Sul, with companies that are world references. Previously, businesswomen Christiane Hufenüsler in 2000 and Monika Hufenüssler Conrads in 2012 presided over the association. Caroline Obenaus Cani was vice-president of the entity in the two previous administrations.
This greater female presence in leadership positions in Jaraguá do Sul has happened naturally because women actively participate in their family businesses, which are large or medium-sized and traditional companies in the municipality. Furthermore, they soon became involved in the voluntary business association movement.
Caroline Obenaus Cani is a partner at Proma Incorporações, where she coordinates the projects and marketing sector. Chistiane and Monika are shareholders of Duas Rodas SA, a multinational in the food ingredients sector. Ana Clara is the financial director of Agricopel, a family company in the fuel sector and granddaughter of the founder of Urbano Alimentos, Urbano Franzner.

For the Jaraguaense association, including young entrepreneurs and highlighting women is a way of renewing leadership with continuity, in favor of economic development with more diversity and care for nature.
The inauguration event, at the Business Center, was attended by Mayor Jair Franzner, the Secretary of State for Industry, Commerce and Services, Silvio Drevek, who represented Governor Jorginho Mello, the president of the Federation of State Industries (Fiesc), Mario Cezar de Aguiar and the vice-president of the Federation of Business Associations (Facisc), Rita de Cássia Conti.
– We will work on connections with civil society, with public authorities, on issues such as security, health, education and infrastructure, always attentive to the demands of our city, so that we have an increasingly better quality of life and a sustainable city to undertake – said Caroline Obenaus Cani.
The main demand of the new president of Acijs was more agility in the duplication of BR-280, connecting the municipality with the coast and the port sector. For decades, this road has been an obstacle to the logistics of Jaraguá do Sul’s economy.
