Last Tuesday afternoon (26), the city of Rio Grande hosted another meeting of the Association of Municipalities of the South Zone (AZONASUL). At the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Rio Grande Chamber of Commerce, several issues of interest to municipalities in the region were discussed.

The main topic discussed during the meeting was the creation of a regional development agency. The creation of the agency aims to strengthen relations between municipalities in the region, enabling the creation of an environment where local leaders can discuss strategic issues for the collective development of the region.

The economic losses suffered in several cities in the region due to the occurrence of yet another weather event – strong winds and rain that occurred on March 21st – and the drop in electricity supply that affected a considerable part of consumers in the southern region of state, as well as the situation regarding the renewal of the toll concession contract at the Pelotas hub were some of the other topics discussed.

Mayor Fábio Branco stated that he supports the proposal to create the regional development agency, recognizing the importance of collaborative work between municipal managers in the search for the region’s development.
