The month of April begins with the edition of Thinking about Minas about religious intolerance. The objective of the meeting, which is this Monday (4/1/24), is to debate the motivations of religious intolerance, understand why certain groups are more persecuted and learn about ways to combat these crimes.

The meeting will be broadcast on the Escola do Legislativo YouTube channel, starting at 9 am, and the public will be able to participate by sending questions and comments via chat.

In Brazil, despite the constitutional guarantee of freedom of worship, allegations of religious racism grew especially after 2021. A report shown by Fantástico, on TV Globo, in January this year, pointed out 140.3% increase in the number of reports of religious intolerance in 2023. There were 1,418 across the country; in 2018, 615 incidents were recorded.

  • Camila Nicácio – doctor, master and graduate in Law, respectively, from the Universities Paris I, Paris III and UFMG. Researches and publishes in the area of ​​anthropology of Law, especially guarantees and fundamental human rights; law and religion; legal pluralism; normative emergency; conflict mediation; administration and access to justice
  • Roberlei Panasiewicz – doctor and master in Science of Religion from UFJF, works mainly on the following topics: religious pluralism, religious fundamentalism and fundamentalism, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue, hermeneutics and religious identity, ethics and research methodology. He is the author of the book “Contemporary religious pluralism: inter-religious dialogue in the theology of Claude Geffré”

The meetings will be mediated by the professor at the Legislative School, Wladimir Rodrigues Dias.

Thinking about Minas

The program, carried out in partnership with TV Assembleia, promotes a chat between researchers and experts on current topics relevant to the legislative process and civic education. The target audience is researchers, public servants and the general population.
