The latest Report on the Volumes of the Main Reservoirs in Rio Grande do Norte, released by the RN Water Management Institute (Igarn), revealed a positive situation with regard to water storage in the state’s reservoirs. With an accumulated total of 3.37 billion cubic meters, surface water reserves represent 74.47% of the state’s total capacity, estimated at 4.52 billion cubic meters.
Among the highlights of the report, the Santa Cruz do Apodi dam has a volume of 480.37 million cubic meters, corresponding to 80.10% of its maximum capacity, estimated at 599.71 million cubic meters. The Corredor dam, located in Antônio Martins, reached its maximum capacity, with 4.64 million cubic meters.

The Umari dam, located in Upanema, is close to overflowing, accumulating 288.29 million cubic meters, equivalent to 98.45% of its total capacity of 292.81 million cubic meters. Meanwhile, the Armando Ribeiro Gonçalves reservoir, the largest in the state, has 1.87 billion cubic meters, corresponding to 78.77% of its total capacity of 2.37 billion cubic meters.
Furthermore, several other reservoirs already exceed 90% of their capacity, indicating a positive outlook for Rio Grande do Norte’s water supply.
These numbers bring relief to the population, especially at a time when many are facing difficulties due to water scarcity. The favorable situation in the reservoirs is a sign of hope for the state’s future.
