A milestone for the development of Bahian education, the Conselheiro Valmir Sampaio Democratic Education Management Complex was inaugurated this Wednesday (27) in Salvador. The unit, delivered by governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, will function as a collaborative space, bringing together the State Education Council (CEE-BA), the National Union of Municipal Education Councils (UNCME-BA), the State Education Forum (FEE-BA ) and the National Union of Municipal Education Directors (Undime-BA).

The governor highlighted the autonomy of the complex. “This is an autonomous environment. Here we carried out a renovation costing almost R$3 million, building spaces for four entities to have their own headquarters. They will meet here, because the Education Council is the one who deliberates on the opening of schools, on the evaluation of education in the state, it is the one who oversees a set of rules. So I’m very happy that they now have a house”, commented Jerônimo.

According to the president of CEE-BA, Paulo Nacif, the inauguration marks a historic moment for society’s democratic participation in the formulation of educational policies. “It is an opportunity for us to strengthen ties between the various actors involved in education, ensuring that everyone’s voices are heard and considered in the construction of a fairer and more effective educational system,” said the representative.

The Secretary of Education, Adélia Pinheiro, highlights that the Complex bears in its name a tribute to counselor Valmir Sampaio, victim of the Covid-19 pandemic while carrying out his role. “The name is a way of recognizing your dedication to education, even in the face of adversity. It symbolizes what this space represents, the convergence of ideals and commitments in favor of inclusive and quality education for all. By bringing together different bodies and entities, we strengthen our ability to develop and implement more effective public policies aligned with the needs of the educational community.”

The new space, located in the Costa Azul neighborhood in Salvador, is the result of a renovation of the extinct Colégio Estadual José Tobias Neto, with 30 rooms, an auditorium with capacity for 130 people, three multifunctional rooms for 50 people each, a cafeteria, stations shared work areas and a plenary for the Full Council sessions. With an investment of more than R$2.4 million, the works included civil adaptations to the existing building, electrical installations, external lighting, dry infrastructure, ceramic coating, among others.

Opening and tributes
The inauguration ceremony also marked the opening of CEE-BA’s work for the year 2024, with the participation of the board, the 24 full councilors, substitutes, representatives of educational institutions, councils, secretariats and State bodies, unions and parliamentarians. Also noteworthy was the inauguration of the new presidency elected for the 2024-2026 biennium, with professor Roberto Gondim Pires as president and professor Dinalva Melo do Nascimento as vice-president.

During the event, tributes were paid to personalities who contributed significantly to education in Bahia, including Councilor Valmir Sampaio, as well as Renée Albagli Nogueira, Ivete Alves do Sacramento, Arany Santana, the family of Luiza Helena de Barros (in memorian), Maria Augusta Rosa Rocha and the family of Councilor Iracy Picanço (in memorian).
