A 53-year-old woman died charred this Saturday afternoon (27) in a fire in the apartment where she lived in Itajubá, in the south of Minas. The victim, identified as Rita de Cássia Almeida, was a psychologist and worked in a city hall mental health program, who mourned the employee’s death.
The flames reached the second floor of the building, which is in the São Vicente neighborhood, and were concentrated in the property’s kitchen. Neighbors called the Fire Department, who rushed to the scene and controlled the flames. Rita de Cássia was found dead. Firefighters also rescued a burning dog in the psychologist’s room, as well as two cockatiels and five cats in other apartments.
Civil Police expertise was called in, as was the Municipal Civil Defense, which ordered three families to leave their apartments. These residents will stay with relatives until the new inspection, which will be carried out on Monday (29). It is not yet known what caused the fire and the case will be investigated.
Through social media, the City of Itajubá lamented the death of the psychologist, who worked at the Family Health Support Center (NASF) and also in the Mental Health Program of the Department of Health.’In this time of sadness and consternation, we ask God to comfort all friends and family‘, declared Mayor Christian Gonçalves.
Rita’s former co-workers also mourned the psychologist’s death. ‘At that moment I received the sad news that Rita de Cássia Almeida, a psychologist for many years here in the City of Delfim Moreira, did her work with excellence at UBS CLÁUDIO BENEDITO DE FREITAS, died charred after a fire in her apartment‘, said a resident of Itajubá.
