30 days ago, the Notary’s Offices of Espírito Santo launched the Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation (AEDO), in partnership with the Judiciary. Since then, 88 people have formalized their intention to be donors through this online procedure, carried out directly at a Notary’s Office, accessing the official national platform at www.aedo.org.br.

The initiative aims to simplify and make the process of expressing a desire to be an organ donor more accessible, highlighting the importance of this gesture for those waiting for a compatible organ. Bruno Bittencourt, president of Colégio Notarial do Brasil – Espírito Santo (CNB/ES), highlights his satisfaction in seeing people’s interest in becoming donors in the first days of AEDO’s launch.

AEDO is regulated by Provision No. 164/2024 of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and is available free of charge to the entire population. Through it, interested parties can formalize their desire to donate organs quickly and safely. The document is made available for consultation by those responsible for the National Transplant System, of the Ministry of Health, helping to speed up the process of identifying potential donors.

The www.aedo.org.br platform allows citizens to fill out an online form and schedule a video conference session with the notary to formalize their intention to donate organs. After the process of identification and collection of the expression of will, the document is digitally signed by the citizen and the notary, making it available for immediate consultation by those responsible for the National Transplant System.

AEDO appears as an important tool to help the more than 42 thousand people who are currently waiting in line for an organ transplant in Brazil. Furthermore, it facilitates the work of health professionals, who will have at hand proof of the deceased’s desire to be a donor, helping to guide the family at the time of death.

The issuance of the AEDO is carried out through the e-Notary platform, a national digital environment for carrying out notarial acts. Anyone interested in donating organs can request their Notarized Digital Certificate on the website www.aedo.org.br and fill out the form indicating their organs for donation. After completion, the document is digitally signed by the citizen and the notary, immediately integrating the Organ Donor Center.

The CNB/ES is the class entity that represents notary publics in the State of Espírito Santo. Sections of the Notary Colleges of each State are gathered in a Federal Council (CNB/CF), affiliated to the International Union of Notaries (UINL), an entity that represents the global notary in more than 100 countries.
