6-month-old baby dies in daycare center in the north of Santa Catarina

Major Vieira City Hall declared three days of mourning

A 6-month-old child died at the Estephania Sjabelski Municipal Creche in Major Vieira, in the North of Santa Catarina. The death occurred this Tuesday, 26th. The child was identified as Joaquim Ravi Koaski.

According to the Military Police, the death allegedly occurred due to natural causes. At around 6:45 pm, military police officers went to São Lucas Hospital to verify a report of a child who had been taken in the afternoon by the fire team and who had died.

At the scene, police spoke with the boy’s father. According to the father, he was warned by the daycare teacher that his son had been taken to São Lucas Hospital after being found unconscious in the daycare center.

He then went to the hospital and at around 5pm he was informed by the doctor on duty that his son had died. According to information from the child’s father, she had no health problems and had been dropped off at school early in the morning, as usual.

The doctor who treated the child reported that he performed the procedures in an attempt to resuscitate, a procedure carried out for more than an hour, however, the child did not react. He further stated that the boy did not show signs of aggression, however, he appeared to be bleeding with the appearance of foam expelled from his nose.

City Hall declares mourning for three days

Major Vieira City Hall, on behalf of the Municipal Department of Education, through an official note, paid condolences to Joaquim’s family. “In this moment of pain and mourning, we offer our deepest solidarity to the family, teachers and staff of Creche Municipal Estephania Sjabelski”, says the note.

“A dear boy loved by everyone, and his unexpected departure leaves a void of immense proportions in our Major Vieira community”, he added.

This Wednesday, the 27th, the mayor of Major Vieira, Edson Sidnei Schroeder, declared official mourning for three days. In addition, classes this Wednesday were suspended at the daycare center.
