Quality water in Santo Antônio do TauáThe Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa) has been working on consolidating investments with financial institutions and the Federal Government to put into practice projects that will improve the water supply and the sanitary sewage treatment network in the 52 municipalities already served.

In February this year, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved a loan of R$ 314 million, intended for modernization works in the 2nd Stage of the Bologna Water Treatment Plant, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém. This initiative will strengthen Cosanpa’s service provision, enabling the restructuring of several water distribution sectors to guarantee a more efficient and safe supply to the population.Governor Helder Barbalho during delivery of supply system in Santarém

Another essential partnership was established with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through a credit operation worth 125 million dollars. The resources will be allocated to the Pará Sanitation Development Project (Prodesan Pará), which is structured as a “Multiple Works Project”, already in the implementation phase.

The services planned for the municipalities of Belém, Ananindeua and Marituba include advances in access and quality of the water supply and wastewater treatment network, operational optimization of supply systems and improvement of Cosanpa’s business management, with an emphasis on technological innovation . Preserving the largest water reserve in the Metropolitan Region, Lake Bologna, is also one of the objectives.18614f3b9a.jpgWater treatment plant in Moju

Prodesan Lagos – At the same time, Cosanpa is in negotiations, already approved by the External Financing Committee (Cofiex), with the New Development Bank (NDB) and the La Plata Basin Development Bank (Fonplata), for co-financing for Prodesan Lagos, the second stage of Prodesan.

This project is more focused on the Circular Economy, which also includes the preservation of Lake Água Preta, another water source in the Metropolitan Region. The project also includes sewage collection and treatment, and a biogas plant, so that the sludge resulting from collection can be applied to the Circular Economy, eliminating waste from the Company’s activities.

Cosanpa is also implementing other essential projects, such as the completion of works on the Una Sewage Treatment Station, in Belém, which represents a crucial advance in efficient waste treatment, and the Ver-o-Peso Complex Sanitary Sewage Project , which is being requested by the State Government from the Union, through the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), which will strengthen basic sanitation in this tourist and commercial region of the capital of Pará.

Concession – The State moves forward with BNDES to grant basic sanitation concessions in Pará with the prospect of holding an auction for the services later this year. It is expected that the goals of the New Sanitation Legal Framework, of 99% water supply coverage and 90% sewage collection coverage in the State by 2033, will be achieved, as provided for by law.9dbc7d0926.jpg

According to the president of Cosanpa, José Fernando Gomes Júnior, “we had the determination of governor Helder Barbalho and vice-governor Hana Ghassan, so that we could strengthen the provision of our service, bringing health and quality of life to the population. These are very important steps so that we can also achieve universalization within the State of Pará”.
