The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, stated this Monday (25) that the investigation involving the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes is a milestone in the fight against organized crime in the country.

After a ceremony celebrating 200 years of the Senate, Pacheco greeted the investigators after being asked about the Federal Police operation that arrested the Brazão brothers.

“Unraveling this crime and identifying the perpetrators is something that society expects a lot, and institutions also expect it. I congratulate all the authorities involved and, perhaps, it will be a milestone in the history of repression of organized crime in Brazil”, he stated.

Pacheco also said he hopes the truth about the case comes to light and that those responsible are punished.

“It is a real feeling of hope and expectation that the real truth about this case may emerge and those who are directly or indirectly responsible for this barbaric crime, this crime against democracy, will be put on trial”, he added.

Yesterday (24), the brothers Domingos Brazão, advisor to the Court of Auditors of Rio de Janeiro, and Chiquinho Brazão, federal deputy, were arrested by order of minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the investigations into the Marielle case at the Federal Supreme Court (STF ). They are in the federal prison in Brasília.
