There are several types of orgasm. The most common are those caused by intimate relationships or masturbation. But there is a type of orgasm that can happen during physical activity. It’s called “coregasm”. The word is a mixture of the English terms “core”, which means “center” or “core”, and “gasm”, derived from the term “orgasm”. In Portuguese, “coregasmo”.

To the Earthsexologist Camila Gentile explains that orgasm during physical activities can occur stimulated through a series of events and contractions of the muscles in the center of the body.

“The ‘core’ region includes the abdominal, lower back, pelvic and hip muscles. The ‘core orgasm’ is nothing more or less than some physical activities that can lead to orgasm. And we are not talking about rubbing the part intimate on gym benches or in bars”, he says.

Sexologist and sex educator Aryanne Marques clarifies that “coregasm” has nothing to do with the pleasure of practicing physical activity, but rather with the effect of the stimuli of some exercises.

It is more common for women to experience “coregasms”, but men can also experience something similar. “Although science still doesn’t have all the answers, experts believe that coregasm may be the result of continuous stimulation of the clitoris and prostate during exercise,” says sexologist Camila Gentile.

Discover the exercises that can lead to “coregasm”

  • Abdominals: The clitoris and prostate can be stimulated by repetitive movements of the abdominal muscles.
  • Squats: “This exercise engages a number of core muscles and can also generate enough stimulation to trigger a ‘coregasm,'” says Gentile.
  • Weightlifting: When exercises involve contracting the abdominal and pelvic muscles, it is possible to reach orgasms during training.

But it is also possible to feel this type of pleasure with other physical exercises, according to sexologist Camila Gentile. “In general: pilates, pompoirism, cycling, abdominal exercises, spinning, yoga, if done properly, can also result in many pleasurable sensations”, she says.
