The search for beauty solutions that are within reach of our home shelves has revealed many benefits over time. Natural foods such as fruits, leaves and even seeds are used in various everyday cosmetics and skin care for many Brazilians.

In trends on social media, bananas have drawn attention as a potential fruit for improving skin elasticity, even being called natural botox. In an interview with Earthdermatologist member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, Lucas Miranda, explains that there are risks associated with using banana peel on the face.

Miranda points out that banana peel can cause allergic reactions, irritation, as well as contact dermatitis in patients with sensitive skin or who already have allergies.

7 fruit peels you should consume to be healthier

Biomedical scientist Thiago Martins says that banana properties are primarily nutritious and antioxidants and contain vitamins A, C and E, which can help with the general health of the skin by fighting free radicals. However, the effect of topical application of these substances on banana peel directly to the skin has no scientific proof.

Compared to other cosmetic treatments, such as botox, the fruit is not effective in reducing wrinkles and does not provide benefits for improving skin elasticity.

“Botulinum toxin acts in a targeted manner on the muscles and temporarily reduces the formation of dynamic wrinkles. Bananas do not have any similar action that has been proven”, says Lucas Miranda.

For the dermatologist, it is necessary to understand that the use of banana peel in your skin care routine can bring potential risks and limitations and it is essential to consult a specialist for personalized guidance.
