Garibaldi – The Municipal Department of the Environment, through the Department of Animal Welfare, is carrying out a census to control the population of dogs and cats.

The campaign aims to carry out a survey to update the number of animals castrated or not in the municipality, so that the service can be offered to both males and females. The purpose is also to reduce the number of litters (canines and felines), with the aim of reducing the rate of animal abandonment in the city.

During recent years, there has been a significant increase in animal abandonment in the municipality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the index increased considerably during the Covid-19 pandemic, with an estimate showing that more than 30 million dogs and cats are abandoned in Brazil.

The census will be carried out through this link, which will also be available on the social networks of Garibaldi City Hall and the Department of Animal Welfare. This way, each person will be able to fill in their pets’ data in order to collaborate with the research.

The questionnaire will also be offered in physical form, during department home visits, in the Basic Health Units (UBS’s) in each neighborhood and in all schools in Garibaldi, in addition to posters that will be spread throughout the city, reminding all residents to participate in the campaign.
