Football CPI will hear referee from Santa Catarina

-

The Football CPI, which is investigating alleged irregularities in Brazilian football, will hear from Bráulio da Silva Machado, a referee from Santa Catarina. The reason is his performance in Palmeiras’ 4-3 victory over Botafogo last year, which was decisive in the São Paulo club winning the Brazilian title. The senators are investigating some controversies involving football over the last year.

In addition to Bráulio, who even made a serious error on the score sheet, the Football CPI will also hear VAR Rafael Traci (Fifa/SC), AVAR Frederico Soares Vilarinho (MG) and AVAR 2 Diego Pombo Lopez (BA).

The request to hear Bráulio came from senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ) and was based on “controversial moves that aroused the attention of the media and public opinion”. The senator further explains that he wants “clarification on the criteria adopted and the circumstances surrounding the controversial decisions”.

Recently, Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), president of the Football CPI, said that the VAR “issued an offside and a penalty” in a Brazilian Championship game involving a team from Rio de Janeiro and another from São Paulo. .

Given this scenario, the senators want to deepen the investigations and may hear from VAR referees. Additionally, field referees may be called to testify. Raphael Claus, from São Paulo, is another referee who must provide clarifications at the Football CPI.

The trigger for the investigation was a report of more than 180 pages produced by a company outside Brazil, at the request of John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo. Textor claims that he has evidence that some games have suffered external interference. The CPI began its activities last week in the Senate.
