According to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology), Brazilian capitals could record temperatures above 30°C this weekend. In Santa Catarina, in addition to the heat, the State is expected to record isolated thunderstorms.

A mass of hot, dry air is gaining strength in the Central-West, Southeast and South regions. Despite the unseasonably hot weather, Inmet clarified on Tuesday (23) that it does not yet characterize the phenomenon as a heat wave.

“Inmet explains that it uses the Heat Wave nomenclature when the forecast indicates that temperatures (in this case, especially the maximum) should remain 5°C above the monthly average for a period of at least two to three consecutive days, in certain area of coverage”, announced the institute.

Still, the heat is expected to punish the cities until Thursday (2). A temperature of 39°C awaits Rio de Janeiro, while Cuiabá can reach 37°C.

Heat in Santa Catarina

Santa Catarina residents can also expect warm days this weekend. For those who want to go to the beach, however, Sunday (28) threatens rain and isolated thunderstorms.

The heat increases in all regions of Santa Catarina on Saturday (27), with a predominance of firm weather and sunshine. Maximum temperatures are around 30°C across practically the entire state.

Civil Defense reported that maximum temperatures in parts of the West, coast and Vale do Itajaí range from 31 to 34°C. The values may be even higher on the South Coast. The approach of a cold front coming from Rio Grande do Sul brings the chance of rain and storms at night, between the Planalto and the South Coast, especially in the border areas.

The advance of the cold front creates instability on Sunday, especially in the southern half of Santa Catarina. The dawn is sultry and temperatures rise before the rains arrive.

Most areas should register heat close to 30°C. Between the Plateau and the South Coast, the weather remains closed throughout the day and temperatures do not exceed 23°C.

Civil Defense warns of the chance of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by occasionally intense rain, gusts of wind and even the occasional hailstorm.
