The structuring of laws aimed at animal welfare in the city was highlighted in an interview by councilor Alessandra Bellucci (Republicans) on the program Primeiro Tempo, on TV Câmara Piracicaba, broadcast on Monday night (25).

The parliamentarian reinforced the importance of the recent approval of bill 217/2023, of her authorship, which establishes that residential, commercial and industrial condominiums report cases of mistreatment to the competent authorities.

“There is already a state law that requires managers of horizontal and vertical condominiums to report mistreatment. However, we created this project at the municipal level because, through it, we were able to map what the city needs. We talk about the city’s needs, and we receive many complaints. This is the importance, to inhibit mistreatment and bring this responsibility to the property manager, who is the first one there, seeing it and being able to resolve it”, said the councilor.

Alessandra Bellucci also highlighted other proposals of her own, such as bill 25/2024, which sought to establish in the municipality the “prohibition of animals trapped, chained or using similar devices, which prevents their free movement and which harms their health and well-being. -estar”, and bill 41/2024, aimed at the conceptualization and establishment of rules for the treatment of so-called “community animals”.

“These are animals that are on the streets, were not adopted and were unable to find a family. There are many, and we do not have a home for all the animals. It’s a very difficult reality. Many people, many residents, take care of these animals with a little house on the sidewalk, with a pot of water, but there are people who are uncomfortable with this. These are animals that are neutered and vaccinated. Why not put this into law so that they are protected and the people who care for these animals are also protected?”, he pondered.

During the interview, Alessandra Bellucci also spoke about the structuring of the Animal Welfare Department, linked to the Zoonosis Control Center, and the importance of castration as a public policy with the aim of curbing the increase in abandoned and vulnerable animals. .

Finally, she also commented on the recent transfer of two tigers from the Municipal Zoo to a sanctuary in the São Paulo city of Joanópolis and defended the non-use of exotic animals for entertainment:

“Zoos are important today to welcome animals from our fauna that are rescued after being run over, victims of mistreatment and cannot return to the wild. We had exotic animals at the Municipal Zoo just for entertainment, like tigers, the spectacled bear and an ostrich. Inside a sanctuary there are no people shouting, children teasing. The tigers and the bear are in a magnificent place, everyone can follow them daily on the internet. It is not open for visitors, they are well-being and it is a cool place, as they are cold-climate animals,” said the parliamentarian.
