The president of the DF Environment Council and secretary of the Environment and Animal Protection (Sema-DF), Gutemberg Gomes, signed Resolution No. 1 of April 2024, an important update to environmental management policies that establishes guidelines and strict criteria for the environmental licensing process for co-processing in clinker kilns, published this Friday (26) in Official Gazette of the Federal District (DODF).

The resolution aims to modernize environmental standards and ensure the protection of natural resources, regulating actions aimed at waste control. According to the resolution, certain types of waste, such as explosives, radioactive, health services, urban solids and pesticides, are explicitly prohibited from being processed using this method.

“This resolution is a milestone in the effort to guarantee safer and more sustainable environmental practices in the Federal District”, stated Gutemberg Gomes. “In addition to establishing clear parameters for co-processing, it reinforces our commitment to transparency and environmental protection,” he commented.

The monitoring of atmospheric emissions is also emphasized, with the requirement for continuous monitoring that records at least 80% of the source’s operating time. This monitoring must provide raw data in real time to the environmental agency Brasília Ambiental, ensuring effective and transparent environmental management.

The new regulations reinforce the need for regular maintenance and calibrations and stipulate that all raw data and monitoring reports are made publicly available in accessible formats. With these guidelines, the Federal District takes a significant step towards ensuring more robust and responsible regulation in the industrial sector, promoting sustainable environmental protection practices.
