The Uruguay River overflowed its banks in the early hours of this Friday (3) in the municipality of Palmitos, São Carlos and Águas de Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina. The situation had already been alerted by Civil Defense and meteorologist Piter Scheuer, on Thursday (2).

Civil Defense works to rescue stranded people. Residents of risk areas had already been informed of the situation, as announced by the Military Fire Department, which helped to avoid more serious situations.

Chapecó Waters

According to Civil Defense, families in Águas de Chapecó needed to be relocated, 10 people were sheltered in the municipality’s parish hall and another 10 displaced people went to the homes of relatives or friends.

One of the most affected parts of the municipality is the Hidroeste resort. Civil Defense teams continue to monitor the rivers and provide assistance to those affected.

San Carlos

This Friday morning, the Uruguay River in Balneário de Pratas is 6.10 m above normal level. In total, 10 families were displaced, four were homeless, four sought shelter just to store their belongings and furniture.

Around 50 people were affected in the municipality, according to Civil Defense. The teams continue to monitor the rivers and provide assistance to those affected.

Maia Steps

In Passos Maia, there was a windstorm recorded in the interior of the municipality, with damage to a eucalyptus forest. At 6am this Friday, Civil Defense is still working to survey the damage.

Serrada Bridge

In Ponte Serrada, there was a record of gradual flooding in the Centro and São Sebastião neighborhoods. Some houses were affected. This Friday morning, Civil Defense was still working to survey the damage.

Vargeão

Record of a windstorm with damage to a house on the Zanuzzo line and falling trees on the São Roque line, in the interior of the municipality. Civil Defense works to survey the damage.
