The Ministry of Planning and Budget (MPO) confirmed this Friday (26) to federal deputy Vander Loubet, coordinator of the federal bench of Mato Grosso do Sul, the selection of three state projects to receive resources from the Mercosul Structural Convergence Fund (Focus).

The selection of projects was made by the External Financing Commission (Cofiex) and took into account criteria such as the Human Development Index (HDI) of the affected region, the potential for reducing regional inequalities of the public policy presented and the role in physical and social relations with other Mercosur countries.

“It is a step forward for our state and our border municipalities to be able to access these resources. Amambai, Corumbá and Ponta Porã will be able to carry out projects that will certainly help the population, as they will cover infrastructure, sanitation and economic development”, Vander explained.

The selection of projects was made by the External Financing Commission (Cofiex) and took into account criteria such as the Human Development Index (HDI) of the affected region, the potential for reducing regional inequalities of the public policy presented and the role in physical and social relations with other Mercosur countries.

Created in 2004, Focem is the first financing mechanism for Mercosur countries with the aim of reducing the bloc’s asymmetries and supporting integration projects in the region. Access by Brazilian subnational entities to the fund’s resources was possible because, in 2023, the Brazilian government paid off its debt with Focem, in the total amount of US$99 million.

“In other words, thanks to the Lula government, our country has regularized itself within the Mercosur Fund and now our government entities will be able to benefit from these resources again”, adds Congressman Vander.
