In the early hours of Monday (11), the anesthesiologist in training Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was arrested in the actby the Office of Assistance to Women of São João de Meriti, by rape a vulnerable woman during a cesarean at the Women’s Hospital, in Vilar dos Teles, in São João de Meriti (RJ).
The medical team, who had already suspected on two other occasions of the anesthesiologist’s behavior, decided to put a cell phone inside a cabinet with a glass door to film the man. “This team had been suspecting the procedures that the doctor had been adopting in other surgeries. Mainly the unnecessary sedation and the attempt to make it difficult for other doctors to see a part of the victim’s body, where he worked, from the neck up. He was wearing a very big and long outfit that was also not very common to wear and he was always using this sedation that the team considered unnecessary and they started to suspect him”, he explained. The crime took place during a cesarean section, while the medical team in charge of the delivery performed the procedure on the other side of the white sheet. The rape lasted about 10 minutes, with Giovanni Quintella Bezerra introducing the penis into the victim’s mouth, who had received excessive sedation. For obvious reasons, the video of the act will not be shared here.
Hugo Novais, the doctor’s lawyer, still declined to comment, but said he would soon give an opinion on the case. According to a report by Civil Policy, which is investigating the casethe victim had not yet been informed about what had happened when the arrest took place..
The investigation is expected to be completed in ten days. Authorities are listening to witnesses to understand if other crimes may have been committed by Giovanni. The penalty for rape of a vulnerable person ranges from 8 to 15 years in prison.
Cremerj opened a precautionary procedure for the immediate suspension of the doctorand the Fundação Saúde do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and the State Health Department issued official notes repudiating the attitude of the health professional and placing themselves at the disposal of the police.
The Hospital da Mulher, where the crime took place, also made itself available to the authorities and said that “this behavior, in addition to deserving our repudiation, constitutes a crimewho must be punished according to the legislation in force”.
