The Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), which measures the preview of official inflation for the month, was 0.21% in April this year, therefore below the previous month’s rates (0.36%) and April last year (0.57%). The data was released this Friday (26), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
As a result, the IPCA-15 accumulates a rate of 1.67% for the year. In 12 months, the indicator records inflation of 3.77%, below the 4.14% accumulated until the March preview of this year.
The fall in the inflation rate was mainly driven by transport, which saw deflation (price drop) of 0.49% in the April preview. Among the items that showed deflation, the highlights were airfare (-12.20%), vehicle gas (-0.97%), diesel oil (-0.43%) and gasoline (-0.11 %).
On the other hand, the food and beverage group showed a price increase of 0.61% in the period, which prevented a greater drop in inflation in the April preview. Among the items that contributed most to the increase in food prices are tomatoes (17.87%), garlic (11.60%), onions (11.31%), fruits (2.59%) and long-life milk (1. 96%).
Products such as potatoes (-8.72%) and meat (-1.43%) brought down food inflation.
The other expense groups presented the following inflation rates: health and personal care (0.78%), clothing (0.41%), personal expenses (0.40%), communication (0.17%), housing ( 0.07%), education (0.05%) and household items (0.03%).
The prices that served as the basis for calculating April’s IPCA-15 were collected between March 15 and April 15 of this year.
