The case went viral on social media and you must definitely identify yourself or know someone who has forgotten something in an app car.

This time, a passenger forgot his cell phone and reported having been extorted by the driver to get the device back. The case happened this Monday (1st), with sports journalist Victor Gammaro, in Maceió, Alagoas.

“I was just extorted by a @voude99 driver. Let’s tell this story and make a guy who charged for returning my wife’s cell phone famous,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In the publication, Gammaro also said that he was on vacation with his wife in Alagoas and she ended up forgetting her cell phone in the car. After the incident, they contacted the driver, who did not make the situation easier and even asked if the couple would agree to a race ‘outside’ the app, to return the device.

However, the story doesn’t end there, initially the victim offered money to cover the journey that the driver would have to take to take the device. However, given the delay, Gammaro decided to pay for an Uber flash. And even though there was no cost, the driver demanded payment of R$100 to return the cell phone.

In one of the posts, the journalist details the situation: “After being evasive about where he was, he confirms: he will only return the cell phone, even if without moving or spending a penny, upon payment. I say that I will only send the full amount if the device arrives. The biker gets there and is unable to remove the device”, he said about the conversation with the driver.

He resists and once again asks for MONEY to RETURN what is mine. Is this the profile of drivers that @voude99 wants to include in its ranks?”, he said.

Soon after, he said that he paid the RS 30 requested by him, so that he could deliver the device to the Uber biker.

“I paid R$30 and asked him to deliver the device to the Uber biker. I would pay the rest upon delivery. He resists and once again asks for MONEY to RETURN what is mine. Is this the profile of drivers that @voude99 wants to include in its ranks?”, he said.

In a statement, 99 said it regrets the user experience. According to the platform, the driver’s profile was blocked as soon as the complaint was registered, in addition to mobilizing a team that “offered reception and instructions on recording the police report”.

The company also added that, in its Community Guide, it recommends that “a fair amount be agreed to compensate for travel expenses to return the lost item” between passengers and the partner driver. However, the platform says that this payment is not mandatory.
