A driver died after crashing his car into an outside gate of the White House in Washington on Saturday night (4), the US Secret Service said.
“Shortly before 10:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling at high speed collided with an external perimeter gate of the White House complex,” the service said in a statement on the X network. The text said there was no threat to the White House itself.
The agents who arrived at the scene “attempted to provide assistance to the driver, who was found dead,” the statement said.
The Secret Service, along with the District of Columbia police and fire departments, began an investigation into the episode, said Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for the agency responsible for White House security.
In January, authorities arrested another person who also crashed a vehicle into the complex’s outer gate.
The White House has recorded a series of similar incidents in recent years, which led to the construction, in 2020, of a taller and more resistant metal fence around the perimeter of the US government headquarters.
