Wolf’s Lair, in Gierloz, Poland
A recent archaeological discovery at the former Nazi military base known as the Wolf’s Lair, located in Gierloz, Poland, is causing great intrigue among experts and researchers. During excavations, archaeologists unearthed five skeletons without hands and feet.
The discovery began on February 24, when the team found a human skull fragment. This find led to further excavations that revealed the remains of the five individuals.
The skeletons, which belonged to three adults, a teenager and a newborn baby, were found arranged close to each other, all facing the same direction.
The location where the skeletons were found also added mystery to the discovery. They were outside a house that was occupied by Nazi commander Hermann Göring.
Near the skeletons, there were burnt boards and sewage infrastructure, but no traces of clothing were found nearby.
Initially, the team of archaeologists thought they were unearthing an ancient bathroom. However, the discovery of the ashes, a burned key and, later, the fragment of the human skull, surprised everyone involved. Adrian Kostrzewa of the Latebra Foundation expressed the team’s surprise at this unexpected discovery.
Currently, a detailed investigation into the remains is underway. The foundation is awaiting the results of the police investigation to understand why the skeletons were missing hands and feet.
The next step in this process is to determine the age of the remains through radiocarbon dating. The Wolf’s Lair has historical importance, being the headquarters of the Nazi Eastern Front during the Second World War.
The place was frequented by well-known figures, including Hitler, and was the scene of events such as Operation Valkyrie. In 1945, the base was destroyed to prevent capture by the Soviet army.
