Carried out by William Paterson University, in New Jersey (USA), a survey listed the 41 healthiest foods in the world. Among the 10 champions, greens and legumes stand out, such as watercress, chard and spinach. Despite not appearing at the top of the list, the fruits obviously also shone.
To achieve the result, scientists paid attention to the concentration of 17 essential nutrients, such as vitamins, in relation to the amount of calories in each food.
This way, it is possible to evaluate foods with greater nutritional density. The researchers used the method in order to understand which raw materials offer the highest nutrient content in relation to caloric intake.
The study not only listed the foods, but also reinforced the importance of maintaining a healthy and diverse meal, including a variety of fruits and vegetables.
For fruit fans, lemon was in the spotlight because, according to scientists, it contains 53 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams, as well as calcium, magnesium, potassium and fiber.
Vitamin C was highlighted not for nothing, as it fulfills a primary function in the body, neutralizing free radicals, helping with collagen production and the immune system.
