Brazil fails to secure Olympic place in 4x100m relay

-

Brazil disappointed at the World Relay Championship in Nassau, Bahamas. This Sunday (5), the country ran out of vacancies in Olympics of Paris in the 4x100m (men’s and women’s) and the women’s 4x400m. The only team to qualify was in the men’s 4x400m.

Brazil’s big bet was on the men’s 4x100m, even more so after its good performance last Saturday (4), when it was only behind the favorites United States and Italy.

In this Sunday’s repechage (5), Brazil spent a large part of the race among the first placed after the passage of Rodrigo Nascimento, Renan Gallina and Erik Cardoso. Paulo André came in 2nd place, but didn’t keep up with his teammates and finished in 4th place (38.72 seconds).

In the battery that also included Denmark, Cuba, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Poland, Germany and Liberia came in 1st and 2nd place, guaranteeing their presence in Paris.

But not everything is lost. There are still two other places left in the ranking, which will go to the two best placed who did not qualify for the World Cup.

The good news was that Brazil secured its place in the 4x400m by winning its heat. The team was formed by Lucas Carvalho, Lucas Vilar, Vitor Hugo and Matheus Lima.

Women can’t do it either

In the women’s 4x100m relay, Brazil did not qualify for Paris. The team formed by Gabriela Mourão, Ana Carolina Azevedo, Lorraine Martins and Vitória Cristina Rosa finished in 5th place in the heat, behind Nigeria, Switzerland, China and the Bahamas. The vacancy didn’t come in the 4x400m either,
